Erick Thohir Shares Handshake with Two Naturalized Players for Indonesia U-20 National Team, Not Ole Romeny
JAKARTA – PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir recently shared a handshake photo with two naturalized players, Tim Geypens and Dion Markx, both of whom are set to strengthen the Indonesia U-20 National Team. Contrary to earlier speculations, the players in the photo are not Ole Romeny, as previously rumored.
Erick Thohir posted a photo on his personal Instagram, saying, “Double handshake. With Tim Geypens and Dion Markx, players of Indonesian descent who are committed to defending the Indonesia U-20 National Team all the way to the senior team.” The handshake marks the official start of their naturalization process.
As seen in the past with players like Mees Hilgers, Eliano Reijnders, and Kevin Diks, the handshake with Thohir is a significant step before the naturalization process. Following this tradition, Geypens and Markx are expected to soon become Indonesian citizens.
The two naturalized players will join Jens Raven in strengthening the Indonesia U-20 squad, led by Indra Sjafri, in preparation for the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup. The tournament, set to take place in China from February 6 to 23, 2025, will be crucial for the team, as they aim to reach the semifinals and secure a spot in the 2025 U-20 World Cup.4o mini
