Facebook and Instagram Outages Impact Thousands
Reports of issues began around 12:30 p.m. ET, with users across the globe experiencing difficulties accessing Facebook and other Meta-owned platforms like Instagram. According to Downdetector, over 100,000 Facebook outage reports and 65,000 Instagram outage reports had been logged by 1:00 p.m.

Even Meta’s homepage, Meta.com, displayed an error message: “Sorry, something went wrong,” as of 2 p.m. ET.

Meta confirmed via X that they were aware of the issue and working to restore services but did not disclose the cause of the problem.

Other Platforms Affected
The outage extended beyond Facebook and Instagram, affecting Threads, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Oculus. Reports of problems spiked across all Meta platforms throughout Wednesday afternoon.

Interestingly, TikTok, which is not owned by Meta, also experienced a brief increase in reported outages around the same time, though the extent was significantly less severe.

Current Status
By 3:30 p.m. ET, Downdetector showed a notable decline in outage reports, with fewer than 10,000 reports for Facebook and approximately 20,000 for Instagram. However, Meta had not posted any updates regarding the root cause or resolution since their initial acknowledgment of the issue on X.

Users affected by the disruption await further details from Meta as services gradually return to normal.
